this post is beautiful quit ya hatin
(i’ll let you guys know how it is, that clip has me scared that it’s all pop/autotuney)
ok so it was really great! and even though it wasn’t the premiere director Richard LaGravenese was there, as was Jeremy Jordan, and they did a Q&A after. 11 of the 14 songs were recorded live while filming, and the others weren’t only because of logisitcs (i.e. that clip of I Can Do Better Than That, because it’s in a moving car). also the girl who asked about that asked if it was recorded in studio or “live Les Mis style” and both acted SUUUPER offended (“wait was Les Mis sung live? I’ve never heard that,” - Jeremy Jordan). oh and the sound crew was the sound crew from Smash.
the blocking in a couple of the songs is a little weird, just because standing/sitting in one spot singing alone doesn’t work as well onscreen as on stage. but most of them are really dynamic and awesome. A Summer in Ohio was absolutely KILLER and got applause. apparently the film was really low budget because they didn’t want Hollywood involved (Richard compared theatre fans (including himself) to rabid comic-con fans and said we do NOT like our musicals fucked with, which is correct). there are a couple places where I’m not a huge fan of the cinematography, but that’s the film degree talking and not a big deal.
there were very few script changes from the 2013 revival, and Jason Robert Brown was in charge of them. for example you only get to say ‘fuck’ once in a pg13 movie (ohhhh America, Canada’s rating system is so much better) and Jason picked “fucking birthday”. also most of the dialogue leading up to songs was improvised so that’s cool. also anna kendrick ad libbed ‘Russell Crow’ instead of ‘Linda Blaire’ in Climbing Uphill which was fucking hilaaarious.
so yeah, solid adaptation, really good performances from both actors.
A Walk Through Art History
I designed these shoes with a unique goal in mind: to create a shoe as a summation of an entire culture’s art. Each shoe possesses design qualities, color palettes, and designs only found in the respective culture. This project allowed me to investigate art historical cultures in a special way by challenging myself to translate an entire style (or series of styles) onto a single object.
Conveniently, I was able to use these designs as the concentration section of my AP Studio Art portfolio and received a score of a 5!
I possess full federal copyright of these designs.
